Many security experts recommend different codes for each one, from online bank accounts, social media, and email addresses. Although this is the ideal, it\u2019s hard to execute in practice. Here\u2019s a method I recommend to create strong unique passwords for each of your online accounts, and keep them memorable so you don\u2019t have to write any of them down. The method involves creating a base password and then adding something different to the end of it depending upon the individual account.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m All About That Base (Password)<\/h3>\n
You can start with a memorable word or series of letters you\u2019ll remember. For our example we\u2019ll use the word \u201cpassword<\/strong>\u201d. Don\u2019t actually use this one in real life! Now, we\u2019ll modify it to include the requirements mentioned above. To help keep it memorable, it\u2019s most typical for people to capitalize the first letter. Most vowels can be changed to a similar-looking number or symbol.<\/p>\n Putting our word \u201cpassword\u201d through the above changes, we get something complex yet memorable so long as we understand our method.<\/p>\n \u201cpassword<\/strong>\u201d becomes \u201cP@ssw0rd<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n (\u2018p\u2019 becomes \u2018P\u2019, \u2018a\u2019 becomes \u2018@\u2019, and \u2018o\u2019 becomes zero)<\/p>\n For example, with our Facebook account we would add \u2018F8\u2019 to the base; \u2018F\u2019 for Facebook and \u20188\u2019 because Facebook is 8 characters long. With our name@gmail.com email we would add \u2018G5\u2019; \u2018G\u2019 for Gmail and \u20185\u2019 because Gmail is 5 characters long.<\/p>\n Facebook account = P@ssw0rdF8<\/strong><\/p>\n Gmail account = P@ssw0rdG5<\/strong><\/p>\n This is just one recommended solution, and there may be some cases where it may not work 100% (for example, with accounts that DON\u2019T want symbols or that require you to change your password periodically), but it\u2019s one method that can help assist in securing your online accounts in a way that you can remember.<\/p>\n If you need help resetting an unknown or forgotten password, BRETT-TEK can help.
