Microsoft is Doing Something for Free? Yep!
On July 29, Microsoft will be releasing their latest operating system, Windows 10. If you’re running Windows 7 or 8.1, you’ve likely noticed a “Get Windows 10” icon next in your bottom-right corner notification area since June. Yes, this is legitimate! Yes, it’s free! And yes, you should take advantage of it! I’ve been experimenting with the Windows 10 preview edition for some time, and I like what I’ve seen. It combines the familiar interface of Windows 7 with some of the features of Windows 8 that were actually really good. So, if you’ve ever pined for the good ol’ “Start” button, or could never get around the modern-UI/Desktop-UI interfaces, your wait is nearly over!
How Do I Upgrade for Free?
Click on the “Get Windows 10” icon in the bottom-right corner (see picture). If you don’t see it, catch up on Windows Updates and you eventually will. A window will open explaining how the free upgrade works. Click the “Reserve your free upgrade”. That’s it!
Every Other One…
Once Windows 10 becomes available on July 29, it will download in the background and inform you when it’s ready to install. You can either get it installed right away, or choose to do it later.
There’s a saying that every other Windows is a really good one…
At the start of the millennium, there was Windows ME, and it was BAD.
Then Microsoft brought out Windows XP, and it was GOOD.
Then they brought out Windows Vista, and it was BAD.
Then Microsoft brought out Windows 7, and it was GOOD.
Then they brought out Windows 8, and most people didn’t like it, so it was BAD.
So, by this pattern, Windows 10 is destined to be AWESOME! 🙂
If you’re running Windows 7 or 8.1, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by upgrading for free to Windows 10. Give it a try!
